Lady Black Bear Hat

{Newborn (0-3 Weeks) & 0-3 Months }

Materials:
-worsted weight (8 ply) yarn in any color (I used I Love This Yarn, Black) (available at Hobby Lobby)
-I Hook size 5.50mm crochet hook
-need to weave in ends
-ribbon for bow (Found mine at hobby lobby!)
-2 felt circles (using ears to measure)

Abbreviations/Stitch Instructions
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
st(s) - stitch(es)
YO - yarn over


Approximate Hat Sizes
Newborn, 12-13 inches (head circumference), 4.5-5 inches (hat length)
0-3 Months, 12-14 inches (head circumference), 5 inches (hat length)


Hat Directions
*Prepare a magic loop or adjustable ring (for questions concerning a magic loop/adjustable ring, see youtube.com for some great videos to help with learning this technique) *If you are unfamiliar with the magic loop, CH 2 and begin HDC in second chain from hook. This works for most hats as well.
**This hat is worked in a continual round. Place stitch markers as necessary.


Newborn (0-3 Weeks)
Round 1: With main color, 12 HDC in magic loop. Pull tight. (12)
Round 2: *1 HDC in the next st, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (18)
Round 3: *1 HDC in the next 2 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (24)
Round 4: *1 HDC in the next 3 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (30)
Round 5: *1 HDC in the next 4 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (36)
Round 6-13: HDC in each stitch around. (36)
Round 14: SC in each stitch around (36)
*Cut yarn and weave ends.

0-3 Months
Round 1:  12 HDC in magic loop. Pull tight. (12)
Round 2: *1 HDC in the next st, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (18)
Round 3: *1 HDC in the next 2 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (24)
Round 4: *1 HDC in the next 3 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (30)
Round 5: *1 HDC in the next 4 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (36)
Round 6: *1 HDC in the next 8 sts, 2 HDC in the next st* around. (40)
Round 7-13: HDC in each stitch around. (40)
*Cut yarn and weave ends.

Baby Bear Ears
Round 1: 9 HDC in magic loop. (9)
Round 2:*2 HDC in each stitch* around. (18)
Round 3:*1 HDC in first 5 stitches, 2 HDC in next stitch* repeat around. (21)
*Finish off and weave in ends.

 *Trace the back of the ear on white felt and cut out two identical circles. Hot Glue inside ears. Sew ears (or use hot glue like I do) and add bow in the middle between the ears. 

This pattern is SUPER flexible and would make adorable baby shower gifts!

Love the pattern, thank you for sharing! However, the last row of the ears appears to be wrong... I repeat the HDC in first 6 then 2HDC in next, twice & then have 2 stitches left, which equals 18 in total not 21. Am I missing something?? Cheers
